Seally Season: Summer at Seal Rocks
Come and see all the action at Seal Rocks this Seally Season!
Summer is a spectacular time to visit Seal Rocks, one of Australia’s largest Fur Seal colony. The rocky outcrops come alive with energy, noise, and movement as thousands of seals gather in full force.

This is prime pupping season, and the colony is bustling with newborns. Tiny black pups, just weeks old, are scattered across the rocks, bleating loudly as they call for their mothers. The bond between mother and pup is strong, females return from the sea with bellies full of fish, locating their pups by sound and smell in a sea of noise and movement.

The big bull seals are another dramatic summer sight. These dominant males are at their most territorial, defending prime breeding spots and keeping a close eye on their harems. You’ll often see them posturing, bellowing, or even engaging in short, fierce clashes to maintain their position.
When the sun’s out and the ocean is calm, many seals head into the water. It’s not just to cool off, swimming helps them build strength, especially for the growing pups. Watch for playful torpedo-like shapes gliding under the surface, or flippers waving from a relaxed float just offshore.
Seal Rocks in summer is absolutely full of life, a true wildlife spectacle right in our backyard.
