Fantastic Whale Encounters at the Prom

October 27, 2025

We’re heading into the final week of the season, and the whales are still putting on a spectacle! It’s been another incredible week out on the water at Wilsons Prom, with plenty of action.

Across five trips we’ve encountered 30 whales…with many sightings small pods of humpback whales travelling together with calves. (Female humpback whale pictured above with a calf by her side)

We are now seeing multiple cow-calf pairs every day, and some of the young ones are full of energy. These calves were often seen practising breaches. A few curious calves have even come over for a closer look at the boat, giving everyone an unforgettable moment!

It’s not just whales putting on a show. Common and Bottlenose Dolphins have been spotted bow-riding and feeding on bait close to shore, while huge flocks of Short-tailed Shearwaters gracefully skim the surface of the water, feeding before returning to their burrows in the cliffs and dunes of The Prom.

With many whales travelling so close to shore, we’ve been treated to spectacular views of the rugged beauty of the Prom Coast, from huge lichen-coloured boulders to turquoise coloured water.

There’s just one more week left of our 2025 Prom Whale Cruises, and a few spots are still available. Come experience these breathtaking whale encounters and the rich coastal wildlife that makes Wilsons Prom so special. Book your spot now!
